I got heavily into gaming in the 90's so I'm probably biased when I say that the late 90's and early 00's were the peak of FPS gaming. Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, and then Half-Life and the ultimate FPS - Half-Life 2. Yeah, I'm biased, but that was the golden age.
