Romero is a legend in game development. Doom is one of the most influential franchises ever created, and the next entry, Doom: The Dark Ages is just around the corner. But Doom is not just pushing the envelope with new releases, it's going old school too.
So if you're still playing DOOM (and yes, people are), there's a reason to boot it up again. The latest update to the official DOOM + DOOM II bundle now includes SIGIL 2, a full free campaign made by the John Romero. Originally released in 2023 as a standalone WAD, SIGIL 2 is now baked into the main package and is accessible straight from the menu. No mods, no extra steps. Just plug in and play.
This follows the recent addition of multiplayer mod support earlier this year, so between that and SIGIL 2, there’s suddenly a lot more reason to revisit the classics. Romero’s level design is still brutal, still mean, and still built for people who like to suffer in a lava pit with 2% health and no ammo. If that’s your thing, you’ll feel right at home.
Anyone else giving this another run before DOOM: The Dark Ages drops in May?
