According to Deadline, Michael Sarnoski (director of Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One) will write and direct the live-action Death Stranding movie. The film is being co-produced by A24 and Kojima Productions.
Sarnoski’s next film (The Death of Robin Hood) is still in post-production, so this won’t start rolling immediately. Kojima has quietly retweeted the report, which usually means it’s legit.
No casting, no release window, and not much else to go on yet. It's rumoured to focus on the early days of the Death Stranding event, rather than retelling the game's plot. Kojima has said before that he wants the film to not feel like a standard video game adaptation.
Between DS2 coming June 26 and this news, it's clear Kojima’s not done with this world yet.
Sarnoski’s a solid pick, but whether the movie ends up as art-house weird or Hollywood weird is still anyone’s guess.
Would you watch a Death Stranding movie? Or is the game weird enough already?
